An Interview With Joe Palmer, Founder of Palmetto Insurance Professionals

Joe PalmerHow long have you been doing what you do and how did you get into the insurance business?

I got my start as a “captive” insurance agent in Charlotte, NC for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co in 2009. Captive agents represent primarily one insurance company such as Nationwide, State Farm or Allstate whereas “independent” agents can represent multiple insurance companies. In 2014 I transitioned to the “independent” channel and formed Palmetto Insurance Professionals (PIP) in order to offer our clients a broader selection of products to better fit their needs and price point.

What is your favorite part of being an insurance agent?

I always enjoy getting to know new people and I’m thankful that my profession allows me the opportunity to help people through difficult times after suffering a loss.

At the end of the day, what do you really DO for your clients?
We all experience loss in life. Some expected, some unexpected. We provide a means of putting the pieces back together to allow your family and/or business to move forward.

What sets you apart from some of your competitors?

We have access to over a dozen nationally recognized A+ rated carriers. Comparing an “independent” agent to a “captive” agent is like having a dozen flavors of ice cream to choose from instead of only one.

How is your approach to insuring a new customer different than other insurance agents?

Our clients are not just a policy number. Being a small, locally owned insurance agency affords us the opportunity to give our clients the service and attention they deserve.  I look at each customers needs and tailor the insurance coverage to fit those needs.  Customers are not given the “cookie cutter” approach.

Who are your clients exactly?

Our clients are those individuals, families and business owners that perceive a value in having a local personal insurance advisor that knows them and that they get to know on a first name basis. Our clients know they can count on us to be there when the need arises.

How are you different from other insurance agents?

I treat every client as an individual and sincerely want to do the best for them in any way I can.  We take pride in staying abreast of the latest trends and products in the industry. We communicate with our clients on a daily basis through a variety of channels ranging from text messages to face to face consultations.
